Enameled 22 karat gold bee and succulent medallion necklace
This necklace features a hand enameled real 22 karat gold bee cabochon created from layers of fused glass in my studio. Set in a thick floral wire bezel with two succulents acting as the prongs. The back features my signature leaf impression. Strung on 18 inches of lightly oxidized sterling silver chain.
What is enamel?
Enamel (Glass) is crushed to a powder somewhat finer than granulated sugar and somewhat coarser than flour. This powder is applied, by one of several methods, to the metal surface. Next the article is heated to 1000-1600°F, either in a preheated furnace. Sometimes 10-20 firings are required to bring about the desired results.
